New on The Scene: Can Emerging Political Actors and Women Make Headway in Lebanon's 2018 Parliamentary Elections?

Lebanon Support cordially invites you to the roundtable

New on The Scene: Can Emerging Political Actors and Women Make Headway in Lebanon's 2018 Parliamentary Elections?

The consociational system as well as kinship-based politics have not allowed circulation of political elites, limiting the entry and participation of newcomers and women to the political scene in Lebanon. The 2018 Lebanese parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place on 6 May after nearly a decade since the last time they were held. The adoption of a a new proportional election law in June 2017 appears to have initiated a new dynamic and has contributed to the rise of new political alliances formed by “civil society actors” as well as an unprecedented number of women candidates. In this vein, this roundtable seeks to present and discuss two briefing papers recently published by Lebanon Support:

The session will be moderated by Halim Shebaya, writer and university instructor, Lebanese American University.

This round table is organised in partnership with Hivos - Beirut Office, within the Women Empowered for Leadership programme (WE4L).
